Born and raised in Midtown Toronto, Dr. Mikaela Kofman was proud to return home after over 15 years of academic and surgical training across North America. Her journey to oral and maxillofacial surgery is deeply rooted in both discipline and passion; qualities she cultivated not only in the clinic and operating room, but also as a Canadian national team athlete competing internationally for over a decade.
Dr. Kofman completed her Bachelors of Science degree in Anatomy and Cellular Biology at McGill University while racing for Canada’s national cross country mountain bike team, balancing elite sport with academic excellence. She went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from Roseman University in Salt Lake City Utah, where she graduated with honours and was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honour Society.
After dental school, Dr. Kofman pursued a one-year OMFS internship, prior to matching the highly demanding four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program at the Detroit Medical Center. Her residency included comprehensive training in facial trauma, pathology, orthognathic, reconstructive and dentoalveolar surgery, and IV sedation.
Throughout her career, Kofman has brought the same work ethic and performance-on-demand mindset from elite sport to the operating room. Her dedication to precision, patient care, and collaboration makes her a valued member of the oral surgery team.
Dr. Kofman joined North York Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Centre in March 2026 where she has already become a crucial part of our team. She is excited to care for patients in her hometown and to contribute to the growing field of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Toronto community.
